268th Glasgow Company Boys Brigade ~ G Muir
The 268th Glasgow Company of the Boys’ Brigade was enrolled as part of the Glasgow Battalion on 21st of May, 1935 and were to be based at what was then “Springfield Church” under the ministry of the Rev. Mr Donald Martin. The first event undertaken by the Company was summer camp to Breakough Farm, Millport. September 1935 saw the launch of the 268th Life Boy Team and shortly afterwards the formation of the company pipe band.
By session 1937-38 membership stood at 36 in the Company Section and 37 in the Life Boy Team. Even during the war years the members were devoted to continuing the company, and met every second Sunday afternoon. With the end of the War the Company would go from strength to strength with great success in Battalion Competitions.
Over the decades the Company has taken part in competitions at District, Battalion and National levels. We have had great success in a variety of events. Likewise through time there has been numerous changes including expansion of the Church and the rapid growth of the local community. Whilst now being one of three BB Companies in Bishopbriggs the 268th Glasgow remains strong and continues to grow, develop and adapt to ensure that its members can still learn and enjoy new activities, whilst remaining focused on the object of the Boys’ Brigade.
