268th Glasgow Company Boys’ Brigade

Junior Section

The first half of the 2011/12 session ended on a high on 15th December when 22 Boys and 8 members of staff had a most entertaining time at the Tron Theatre’s pantomime production with copious amounts of sweets and ice cream being consumed. Unfortunately the previous week saw a repeat of the same week in December 2010 when we were forced to cancel the Section meeting, not this time because of snow and ice, but because of the high winds prevailing throughout that day.
On the Springburn District competition front our team of six Boys took a creditable second place in the potted sports event whilst our three Boys in the Bible Knowledge quiz did their best but, in a tightly scoring competition, could only take fourth place. Nonetheless the points scored in these competitions keep us up with the frontrunners and we will be looking to take good results from the events yet to come so well done to all who took part.
During the month of February we will, after a break of two years, be turning our fund raising skills to the work of The Boys’ Brigade / Church of Scotland World Mission Fund appeal which this year is seeking funds to aid the work of The Boys’ Brigade in Zambia. Donations will be used to assist new BB Companies in setting up, existing Companies with the purchase of equipment and in encouraging the Brigade in Zambia to become self supporting. Our Boys will be seeking donations from friends and relatives throughout the month and if any member of the congregation would like to support us in this appeal but does not know any of our Boys, any donation anyone may wish to make whether large or small, would be more than welcome and can be given on any Sunday morning during February to either the Section treasurer Mr Jim Kerr or to me.
On Saturday 24th March we will be looking to our own funds and to this end the Section will be hosting a Line Dancing event at which an expert instructor, backed by her group of dancers, “Line Attack”, will be happy to both entertain us and put us all through our paces whether we are first timers or experienced line dancers. I am assured that this is a fun evening for all ages and we look forward to the support of parents, friends and supporters of the Section in helping us to raise funds for the ongoing work of the Brigade here at Springfield Cambridge. Ticket prices will be priced £5.00 and will be available from members of the Junior Section staff from Sunday 4th March.
This will be a BYOB event but tea, coffee and biscuits will also be available on the night and we hope to run, in the course of the evening, one or two other fund raising events so do come along and enjoy a good night out while helping us to raise funds for the work of the Junior Section.
